Our Approach to Patents

Back to Other Policies

Last updated: March 2026

1. Principles

Ophraxx AI develops and operates its technology in-house. Our approach to patents is aligned with our commitment to safety, transparency, and responsible innovation:

  • Protect meaningful innovation: We seek to protect innovations that advance the safety, reliability, and usefulness of our AI systems—including model architecture, safety pipelines, and methods that reduce harm or improve accountability.
  • Support responsible access: We believe in enabling responsible access to AI capabilities. Our patent strategy is not aimed at blocking good-faith research, interoperability, or compliant use by others.
  • Enable alignment with our standards: We may use patents to support partnerships or licensing arrangements that align with our safety and transparency standards, so that our technology is used in ways consistent with our Charter and policies.

2. Defensive Use

We generally use patents defensively—to deter misuse of our technology, to protect our users and our systems from infringement claims, and to defend against entities that might seek to assert patents against us or our users in bad faith. We do not use our patent portfolio primarily to block legitimate, good-faith innovation or to extract royalties from independent developers who are building responsibly. If we become aware of a patent claim that we believe is being asserted in bad faith against our users or the broader community, we may consider defensive measures consistent with this approach.

3. Licensing

Licensing of our patents is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. We consider factors such as public benefit, safety and compliance of the proposed use, alignment with our policies, and the impact on our ability to continue improving and securing our systems. We do not commit to any particular licensing terms in this document; any license would be set out in a separate written agreement. If you are interested in licensing or partnering in a way that involves our technology or patents, contact us through our designated support channel with a clear description of your use case and how it aligns with our safety and transparency commitments.

4. Openness and Transparency

We document our safety systems, data practices, and policies in public policy pages (e.g. Trust & Transparency, Security & Privacy). Our patent strategy does not replace or contradict that transparency; we aim to protect our innovations while remaining accountable to users and the public. We will update this page if our approach to patents changes in a material way.
